Financial assistance available

Quebec

Up to $10,000

In Quebec, households with a total income ranging from $39,560 to $134,550 may be eligible for the program, depending on the number of people in the household. This Quebec government grant aims to facilitate and make the transition from oil heating to a heat pump more cost-effective.

Other Canadian provinces

Other eligible expenses related to the conversion from oil to heat pump:

  • Electrical and mechanical upgrades required for the new HVAC system.

  • Installation of outdoor piping for geothermal heat pumps.

  • Safe removal of your oil tank.

  • Installation of a backup electric heating system (if required).

  • Replacing other oil-burning household systems, such as the water heater (if required).

The 5 steps to qualify for the program

The Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program is open to Canadian households. To qualify, you must:

  • Be the owner and principal resident of an eligible property heated with oil.
  • Be below the income eligibility threshold (check your income eligibility).
  • Have purchased a minimum of 500 liters of heating oil within the 12 months prior to applying for financial assistance.
  • Be connected to a North American electrical grid.
  • Complete the work within 6 months of receiving the upfront payment.
  • Not have received money for a heat pump under the Canada Greener Homes Grant or the Canada Greener Homes Loan.

To submit an application for the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program, please access the Canada Greener Homes portal.

To take advantage of the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program, you must fill out an application and provide certain documents, including:

  • Proof of ownership and principal residence
  • Proof of income
  • Proof of purchase over the past 12 months of at least 500 liters of heating oil
  • Quote(s) from the contractor(s) selected to carry out the work

Find out all the important details about the documents required for your application.

IMPORTANT : For the purposes of this program, heating oil does not include natural gas, propane or coal. For these types of fuel, please refer to the Dual-energy grant program. .

Once your application has been reviewed by Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program staff, you will receive confirmation of your eligibility by email.

If you qualify and agree to the granted amount, you will receive your subsidy within 5 to 10 business days.

In most cases, you will receive your grant before you have to pay for the entire project.

While enjoying the comfort of your new heat pump, please log on to the Canadian Greener Homes portal portal to submit the certification of work completed form provided by the Klimfax team. Remember to include your tax receipts.

IMPORTANT: This step must be completed within 6 months of receiving your grant payment. You must keep copies of your documents until March 31, 2028.

NOTE: Federal grant programs are not taxable.
