Dual energy: good for you, your wallet, and the planet
What is dual energy?
Dual energy, is the combined use of electricity and a fuel, such as oil, propane, natural gas, biomass, wood furnace, etc., to heat your home more efficiently.
By using electricity mainly during mild weather and switching to your preferred fuel during extreme cold or times of high electricity usage, you can ensure optimal resource utilization based on conditions.
Heating with natural gas?
Did you know Hydro-Québec and Énergir have teamed up to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and cut peak-period electricity consumption by offering a joint dual-energy conversion program?
Switch to dual-energy electricity and natural gas with Klimfax, Énergir Partner, and benefit from recognized expertise and professionalism, as well as access to grants and the advantageous DT dual-energy rate on your electricity consumption.
Our team is proud to be part of the solutions for sustainable development, offering high-performance heating alternatives for both comfort and eco-responsible consumption.
By opting for dual-energy electricity and natural gas, you, too, can contribute to sustainable decarbonization.
At what temperature is dual energy activated?
Typically, dual energy is activated from -12°C or -15°C. This generally represents only 10 to 20 days a year, depending on where you live.
Do we save money with dual energy? Yes!
By using only natural gas to heat your home during periods of extreme cold or high electricity consumption, your entire home benefits from DT rate, an advantageous rate offered by Hydro-Québec.
The amount you save depends on your lifestyle and how you manage your consumption during these periods. This means significant savings not only on your natural gas bill but also on your electricity bill.
What is the DT rate offered with natural gas dual energy?
This is a very low price per kilowatt-hour (kWh) when the temperature is milder. When the temperature drops, the rate goes up. That’s when it’s time to switch to natural gas heating.
- Hydro-Québec base rate: $0.10/kWh
- Off-peak dual-energy rate (DT rate): $0.04/kWh
- On-peak dual-energy rate (DT rate): $0.26/kWh
How much can I expect to save with dual energy?
According to Énergir, dual-energy systems can reduce natural gas consumption, including GHGs, by up to 70%. When it comes to electricity, it’s not uncommon for our customers to benefit from energy savings of over 30% for their homes.
How much will I save with the dual-energy grant?
With the advantageous “dual-energy electricity and natural gas” grant, you can save up to $7,400 directly on your bill with us. This way, you don’t have to wait several months for the government rebate.
Is dual energy worth it? Yes
Here are all the advantages of dual-energy electricity and natural gas
Efficient management of energy consumption
The switch between using electricity and natural gas to power your heating system doesn’t require any intervention on your part. By automatically using the right energy source at the right time, dual energy is a winning choice on all fronts!
Financial advantages and grants
Switching to dual-energy systems not only helps to reduce electricity consumption but also makes you eligible for grants. These grants cover a significant portion of the cost of purchasing a heat pump and installing it in your existing natural gas central heating system.
